Tellstrom Returns to Spears Modified Series and All American Speedway

Bakersfield, CA – On March 23rd, the Spears Modified Series will open their 18th season with the “Fytron Software 60 presented by LIUNA” at ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY – ROSEVILLE CA (CA). Kyle Tellstrom will return to California to participate with the series for the first time since the 2019 “Winter Showdown” at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway (CA). Tellstrom grew up in Ukiah, CA but now calls Boise, ID his home. The former North State Modified Series champion will look to get his season off to a fast start with a $2,000 win next Saturday night.
Tellstrom has 33 starts with the Spears Modified Series, and he racked up victories in each season from 2015 to 2018. He finished fourth in the championship standings in 2016 but made only one start in 2019. Tellstrom has only two starts at All American Speedway in his Modified. Both of those were in the North State Modified Series (NSMS), where he has 10 career victories in 23 starts. Both of his Roseville starts resulted in diametrically opposed finishes with a 21st in 2014 while hitting paydirt seven years later.
“Our first trip to Roseville was the season finale in 2014 for the NSMS”, Tellstrom recalled. “We made the first practice session but lost an ignition box trying to head out for the second session. We barely made it out for qualifying, after Mike Doss brought us a box, and thrashed to help us get it wired in. I think we got crashed out five laps in. It was a disappointing end to a long day.”
Tellstrom continued, “The second trip to AAS was on July 24th, 2021, which was the first time back on track after a big crash at Eureka (Redwood Acres Raceway). So really, I had 15 laps at the track prior to that race. Scott Winters and I had an absolute barn burner that night. I really wanted to get my first win at AAS, as my grandpa ran Roseville a decent amount back in the day and had good success there. He has told me a lot of stories about racing there, but we just never got the chance to run there very often. Fortunately, we were able to come home with the victory that night.”
Tellstrom may best be known for his Modified exploits, which also includes five wins in eight starts with the Speed Tour Modified Series, but he has proven to be very versatile on the asphalt. He has wins in Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Speed Trucks, Sprint Cars, Midgets, Street Stocks, Pro 4 Modifieds, and Bandoleros. He has victories in 11 different touring series, including the “Apple Cup 125” for the Northwest Super Late Model Series and the “Napa Auto Parts Idaho 208” for the Speed Tour Super Late Models. He has series championships in the USAC Radical Focus Midget Series, Speed Tour Super Late Models, and the North State Modified Series as well as three Late Model championships at Meridian Speedway (ID).
Tellstrom will return to All American Speedway, looking to add to his already impressive resume. He will be met by a strong field of Modifieds, each determined to write their names in the record books of the series.
The Spears Modified Series teams will race for a $2,000 winner’s purse in the season opener. It will be event number one for the series, after the “All-Star Showdown” was postponed at Irwindale Speedway. The series will visit five different facilities in 2024 and will conclude their season at Kevin Harvick’s Kern County Raceway on October 26th for the “October Classic.
